Multi-stakeholder consultation on social security measures & wage campaigns for unorganised workers commences

Bhubaneswar (22/02/2025): A two-day multi-stakeholder consultation on social security measures and wage campaigns for unorganised workers commenced at Hotel Stalwart Jajati, Bhubaneswar.

The event was organised by ActionAid Association in collaboration with CCWD and Janajagaran Dadan Sangha, Balangir.

The consultation aimed to strengthen and educate human rights defenders and worker collective leaders on labour laws and the dignity of workers, as highlighted by Sadasiv Swain, Secretary of CCWD.

During session, key speakers included Panchanan Kanungo, Former Finance minister of odisha ,Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, Director of Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education (Government of India); Professor Harekrushna Swain, Mahendra Kumar Parida, Member , Odisha Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board and Social Security Board, Ajaya Kumar Pradhan, Divisional Labour Commissioner, Khordha, Bhubaneswar; Debabrata Patra, Associate Director of ActionAid Association. The session was moderated by Ghasiram Panda.

The second session focused on the Wage Code, Minimum Wages, and the health rights of unorganised workers.

The panel included Gouranga Chandra Mohapatra, State Convenor of Jana Swasthya Abhiyan, N.Narayan Reddy, Former MLA, Basanta Kumar Patra, Education officer of Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education (Government of India), Pradipta Nayak, Leader of CPIM, Columnist Dr.Santosh Kumar Mohapatra and noted journalist Sudarshan Chhotaray shared their insights.

In the third session, moderated by Murali Charan Das, Centre Coordinator of Balangir, discussions revolved around the issues and challenges faced by unorganised workers.

Participants included Manas Ranjan Pradhan, HRD Bhubaneswar; representatives from Jana Jagaran Dadan Sangha, Bolangir; ASM leaders; leaders from various collectives and CHRDs actively participated.
