Notorious criminal injured in police encounter in Bhadrak

Bhadrak(By Abhishek Mohanty): A notorious criminal was injured in a police encounter in the Charampa area of Bhadrak district on Tuesday.

The injured has been identified as Kamalakanta Das alias Buddhiya, a criminal with multiple cases registered against him in Bhadrak and Balasore districts.

According to police sources, Kamalakanta and another youth had arrived from Soro and were roaming around Charampa with the intention of committing a robbery.

Acting on a tip-off, police attempted to intercept them. 

During the operation, Kamalakanta allegedly opened fire, firing four rounds at the police.

In retaliation, police fired back, injuring Kamalakanta in his right leg. His accomplice managed to escape from the spot.

Kamalakanta was immediately shifted to Bhadrak Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is stated to be serious.

The encounter took place while the duo was moving on a black Pulsar motorcycle without a registration number.

Police said Kamalakanta was involved in several serious crimes. A few days ago, he allegedly looted Rs 15 lakh after opening fire near Khaira, and later looted Rs 5 lakh in Soro following a similar incident.
