Revenue Staff in Mass Leave: Go on a Sit-in Strike at Collector’s Office in Balasore

Balasore, 11/08 (Krishna Kumar Mohanty): Revenue staff in Balasore Sadar Subdivision have gone on mass leave and begun a sit-in protest at the District Collector’s office from today.

The protest is in support of their 10-point charter of demands, which they have repeatedly placed before the state government through appeals, letters, and discussions. Earlier, they observed a week-long symbolic protest by wearing black badges. The state-wide strike was originally planned to begin on 14 July but was postponed to 10 August after the employees granted the government an additional month to respond.

However, with no action taken so far, discontent has grown among the revenue staff. Many have been denied promotions for years due to pending cadre restructuring, with some retiring without receiving due benefits. Despite their role in efficiently implementing government schemes at the grassroots level within tight deadlines, they allege continued neglect by the state government.

In Balasore, over 200 staff members are sitting in dharna in front of the Collector’s office, causing inconvenience to the public who depend on various departmental services.

District General Secretary Swastik Das and Working President Prachiprabha Nandi said the strike would continue until their demands are met and an official notification is issued. They also held the government responsible for the difficulties faced by the public.
