Satkosia Tiger Reserve to get 14 new guests

Bhubaneswar (28/08/2024): The Satkosia Tiger Reserve (STR) in Angul district of Odisha may get 14 new guests. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has given its approval for the relocation project of tigers from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR). The NTCA has approved the interstate tiger translocation project to revive the big cat population in Odisha. Following the green signal from NTCA, the Satkosia forest department has made a 5-year plan in which 14 tigers will be translocated in a phased manner. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Susanta Nanda informed that a five-year plan has been developed for phased relocation.
Discussions with local residents and public representatives are ongoing, and conditions set by NTCA must be met before commencement of the project, Nanda added .
