Silence Period for Nuapada by-poll to begin from 4 PM on November 9: CEO Odisha

Bhubaneswar (By Abhishek Mohanty): In view of the upcoming Nuapada Assembly by-election, Odisha’s Chief Electoral Officer, R. Santh Gopalan, announced that the mandatory silence period will commence at 4 PM on November 9.

During the 48 hours, all forms of campaigning — including rallies, public meetings, and social media posts meant to sway voters will be strictly banned.

The CEO has instructed officials to ensure complete compliance with the Model Code of Conduct.

Political workers from outside the constituency have been ordered to vacate the area before the silence period begins, with monitoring teams conducting inspections at hotels and border checkpoints.

So far, enforcement teams have confiscated Rs 1.22 crore in cash and liquor valued at Rs 1.32 crore.

For peaceful polling, 14 companies of police personnel will be deployed, which will include six all-women “pink booths.”
