SNEH ORGANISES SEMINAR ON RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
Bhubaneswar(21/03/2024)By Abhishek Mohanty: Society for Nature, Education, and Health (SNEH), a dedicated voluntary organization committed to fostering peacebuilding and advancing Restorative Justice initiatives across Odisha organised a Seminar centered on the theme "RESTORATIVE JUSTICE - Enhancing Justice: The Complementary Role of Restorative Practices in Reforming the Punitive System.
This transformative event took place at our SNEH's Peace Resource Center, SAMPRITI in Bhubaneswar. At this gathering, eminent civil society members, distinguished senior police officers, advocates, influential pressure group members, and passionate human rights activists participated.
Their valuable insights and perspectives will enriched the discussions on the present legal system, paving the way for constructive dialogue and meaningful outcomes.
Prasanta Kumar Pradhan, Project Coordinator highlighted the contribution of restorative justice for sustainable peace. Deputy Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Roshan Kumar Satpathy attended the seminar and said, "There is no progress in society without peace.
Despite having a strong judiciary system in India, pendency of cases is much higher.
Change will definitely happen if support organisations can help in interventions at their level." Superintendent of Khordha District Jail Krushna Chandra Rout emphasised that delay in justice is injustice to jail inmates.
Additional Secretary, Water Resources department, Odisha Srikant Kumar Mishra said that social injustice can be eradicated by gram sabhas or such adjudication bodies. SNEH President Subarna Ghosh presided over the seminar. Advisor of SNEH Subash Chandra Panda said that peace backed by justice can lead to sustainable peace Dibakar Mahali, Assistant Project Coordinator welcomed the guests and coordinated the programme. SNEH endeavors to imbue the hearts of communities with the transformative essence of Restorative Justice.
Through innovative, meticulously crafted training modules, the organization aspires to kindle the flame of justice, envisioning a society where righteousness and tranquility reign supreme.
