•Radharanjan Pattnayak’s Critical Book ‘Sriram Sahitya o Sanskritika Asmita’ Unveiled

Balasore, 8 June (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): A literary gathering marked the unveiling of the analytical work ‘Sriram Sahitya o Sanskritika Asmita’ authored by renowned critic Dr. Radharanjan Pattnayak. The book, published by Odisha’s reputed publishing house Vidyabharati, was released at a special ceremony presided over by poet Abhaya Das.
The event began with floral tributes to Lord Jagannath’s portrait and ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the formal unveiling of the book.
In her keynote address, Subhasini Jena—editor of Rebati magazine and sitting legislator—reflected on how ancient literature like the Ramayana continues to inspire contemporary creators. She remarked, “Ram literature often imparts moral clarity and echoes the eternal wish: ‘May all be happy’.”
Balasore Additional District Magistrate Sudhakar Nayak, attending as a special guest, noted that Ram literature not only offers idealistic visions for Indians but also nourishes a cohesive worldview, uniting humanity across boundaries.
Linguist and critic Prasanna Patra emphasized that in a time when society resembles a disrupted Hastinapur, the guiding light of Ram literature has never been more relevant.
Eminent scholar and professor Dr. Babruvahan Mahapatra, another distinguished speaker, argued that “Ram literature is not merely myth but a historical transformation. The evolution of weapons used during Rama’s era can be compared with today’s modern versions,” drawing insightful parallels. He also highlighted how references to the world’s first space traveler appear in Ram literature, underscoring the depth and vision of the genre. Dr. Pattnayak’s book, he said, merits the highest praise for capturing this expansive vision.
Kulamani Barik, Senior Associate Editor of Samaja (Northern Odisha Edition), analyzed the philosophical foundations of Ram literature and its far-reaching impact on everyday life. He stressed that in today's shifting cultural landscape, we must reclaim our identity with pride.
In his presidential address, poet Abhaya Das declared that ancient literature and Odia identity continue to energize 21st-century writers. Today’s poets weave myths, metaphors, and symbols by fusing epic characters with contemporary life.
Author Dr. Radharanjan Pattnayak then shared his scholarly perspective, calling Sriram Sahitya “a vibrant gallery of humanist expression,” and presented commemorative mementoes to the guests.
Kumari Aditi Das welcomed the dignitaries with floral bouquets and badges, while the event was gracefully conducted by Prof. Dr. Pradeepta Mishra. The function commenced with an invocation to Lord Jagannath by Advocate Bijay Panigrahi. Noted contributors like Bidhyadhar Nayak and Manjulata Bal lent their support.
The evening concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by eminent educationist and poet Purna Chandra Panda.
The program was attended by a large number of respected citizens, educators, writers, intellectuals, and social workers of Balasore.
