Three eminent personalities from Odisha to receive Padma Shri

Three eminent personalities from Odisha are likely to be honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri awards, as per reports in national media.
The distinguished individuals include noted Santali writer Charan Hembram, renowned literary figure Mahendra Kumar Mishra, and acclaimed artist Seemanchal Patra.
Their exemplary contributions to literature, education, and art have brought national recognition to Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
Charan Hembram is reportedly set to receive the Padma Shri for 2026 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to literature and education.
A prominent writer in the Santali language, he has played a crucial role in preserving and promoting tribal culture, traditions, and heritage through his literary works, significantly strengthening indigenous language literature.
Mahendra Kumar Mishra will be honoured for his remarkable contribution to literature and education.
A strong advocate of mother-tongue education, he has been instrumental in promoting linguistic diversity. His work has received international acclaim, including UNESCO’s International Mother Language Award.
Meanwhile, noted artist Seemanchal Patra has been selected for the Padma Shri in the field of art. Known for his distinctive artistic style and commitment to preserving traditional art forms, Patra has earned recognition beyond the state.
