Tiger census begins at Similipal

Baripada: The tiger counting exercise has commenced at Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district. The Forest Department has deployed 85 personnel in 8 teams for the counting process. 

More than 300 trap cameras and artificial cameras are being utilized for this exercise. The counting will be done by collecting paw prints and stool samples. 
After completion, the report will be submitted to the NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority). The tiger counting report is expected to be published in 2026. 

According to the last report, Similipal was home to 24 adult tigers and eight cubs.
