TIGERS REGAINING THEIR LOST HOMELAND IN ODISHA

Bhubaneswar (21/04/2024): A male tiger from the central Indian landscape has reportedly travelled across three states to reach Odisha. According to the Forest department, the tiger has been captured in camera trap close to Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Mayurbhanj district. In a Twitter (X) post, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda said, "Tigers regaining their lost homeland in Odisha...This male tiger has travelled across 3 states from central Indian landscape and has been trapped close to Similipal Tiger Reserve.
Exciting prospects of adding to the gene pool of the STR." Earlier, a Royal Bengal Tiger from Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh had migrated to Odisha.
The tiger had been captured in camera trap in Sundargarh district in March this year. The All Odisha Tiger Estimation 2023-24 conducted by the Forest department highlighted that Odisha is home to 30 adult tigers and eight cubs.
