Two-Day National Workshop on 'Landslide Hazard Assessment' Successfully Concludes at FMU

Balasore | 31 August 2025 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty) The P.G. Department of Geology, Fakir Mohan University, in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), organized a Two-Day National Workshop on “Landslide Hazard Assessment: Geoscience Approaches and Analytical Software Tools” from 29th to 30th August at the Nuapadhi Campus.

The workshop was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, in the august presence of Prof. Santosh Kumar Agarwal (In-charge, Chairman, P.G. Council), Prof. Ranindra Kumar Nayak (Director, HRDC), and Arun Kumar Naik, Program Coordinator, along with HRDC members Dr. Rajashree Dutta and Dr. Prahllad Khilla, and faculty of the P.G. Department of Geology, including Dr. Smrutirekha Sahoo and Dr. Pankajini Mahanta.

Over 80 participants from prominent institutions including Utkal University, MSCB University, M.P.C. Autonomous College, and Kendrapara Autonomous College engaged in the workshop. Renowned experts Dr. Rajesh Kumar Dash (CSIR–CBRI, Roorkee), Dr. Yunus Ali Pulpadan (Central University of Kerala), and Dr. Bankim Chandra Mahanta (IIT Bhubaneswar) led technical and hands-on sessions covering landslide hazard analysis, remote sensing applications, and the use of geoscientific software tools such as Google Earth Engine, Weka, RAMMS, and Rocscience.

The workshop concluded on 30th August 2025 with a valedictory session presided over by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, where participants lauded the program for its academic rigor and practical orientation, and certificates were distributed. The event was widely appreciated for equipping participants with advanced tools and methodologies to tackle landslide hazards effectively.
