“Work with Dignity, Live with Pride” – A Celebration of Labour and Commitment
International Labour Day Celebrated at Fakir Mohan University: 52 Staff Members Honoured

Balasore, 1 May (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): The Faculty of Business Studies and Department of Management at Fakir Mohan University organized a meaningful event to mark International Labour Day with the theme "Work with Dignity, Live with Pride."
Held under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, and chaired by Prof. Bhaskar Behera, Chairman of the Postgraduate Council, the programme emphasized the vital role of workers and the need to protect their rights and welfare. Prof. Behera highlighted that the comforts of food, clothing, and shelter are made possible due to the tireless efforts of workers, and it is essential for everyone to stay aware of their rights and overall development.
The Chief Guest, Assistant Labour Officer of Balasore district, Shri Debashis Jena, shed light on the responsibilities and functioning of the Labour Department. He provided insights into government schemes and benefits available to workers and discussed key regulations like the Child Labour Prohibition Act, Minimum Wages Act, and labour rights frameworks.
One of the key features of the programme was an interactive session where university employees had their queries addressed and were informed about various legal provisions relevant to labour welfare.
The highlight of the event was the felicitation of 52 non-teaching staff members working at the grassroots level of the university. Their dedication, institutional contribution, and unwavering commitment were acknowledged with heartfelt gratitude and respect.
Though unable to attend in person, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tripathy sent a message stating, “Work is not merely a means of livelihood, but an expression of duty and dignity—an intrinsic value of human life.”
Dr. Arta Bandhu Jena, Coordinator of the Commerce Department, spoke about the significance of Labour Day, while Prof. Padmalita Rautray of the Business Management Department elaborated on this year’s theme.
The programme was anchored by Assistant Professor Laxmi Priya Parida and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Assistant Professor Debadatta Nayak.
