'Baghuni (Dance Like a Tiger)’: A Groundbreaking Odia Film Roars at Cannes

Bhubaneswar: Baghuni (Dance Like a Tiger) has made history as the first-ever international co-production from Odisha to be unveiled at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Written and directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Jitendra Mishra, the film’s first look was revealed on May 15 at the Bharat Pavilion, hosted by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.

This landmark Odia feature is a joint venture between the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), Glocal Films UK Ltd, and Cinema4Good Pvt. Ltd.

Odisha-born, London-based producer Partha Panda has partnered with NFDC for this project, marking a significant return of the organization to Odisha after over two decades.

Starring Actor Sabyasachi Mishra, Baghuni is a powerful story of resistance, resilience, and transformation, confronting deep-rooted societal traditions. Written & directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Jitendra Mishra, the script is penned by National Award-winning writers Shankhajeet De and Dr. Sulagna Mohanty, with Utpal Borpujari as script consultant and Susanta Mani as dialogue writer.

Set to be filmed across Odisha and Londo in September and October 2025, the film will be produced in multiple languages—Odia, Sambalpuri, Koshli, and Hindi.
