Baramba MLA Inaugurates Branch Offices of CHRC and Purbasha Tarini Maa at Narasinghpur
Balasore, Jan 9 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): The Citizens’ Human Rights Clinic, Odisha (CHRC) and Purbasha Tarini Maa Socio-Economic Development Organisation (MSEDO), in collaboration with Sabitri Devi Charitable Trust, Bhubaneswar, inaugurated their branch offices at Narasinghpur in Cuttack district on January 7.
The offices were inaugurated by Baramba MLA Bijay Kumar Dalabehera in the presence of several eminent personalities, including noted novelist Prof. Rashmi Roul, former Ravenshaw University professor Prof. Niranjan Barik, Prof. Kulamani Barik, Prof. Umakanta Sahoo of Swarna Charitable Trust, and Banashree Mohapatra, Secretary of the Women’s Wing of CHRC and Purbasha.
Other dignitaries present included Pravakar Mishra, Lalit Kumar Mishra, Manash Kumar Dash, President of CHRC Narasinghpur branch, Prakash Chandra Das, Secretary of the branch, Sulagna Sucharita, Sudhakar Nayak, Biduprava Sahoo, Swapna Murmu, Kamini Rout, Indurani Parija, Nrusingha Nath Nanda, National Convenor of CHRC, Ajay Kumar Dey, Shankar Khatua, Sanjay Kumar Dalabehera, and many others.
Following the inauguration, a mega meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Gopabandhu Mallick, Chairperson of CHRC. Addressing the gathering, MLA Dalabehera underlined the importance of human rights organisations as watchdogs that monitor, document, and report violations. He assured his full support for the effective functioning of the newly opened offices.
Chief speaker Prof. Niranjan Barik said the world is currently facing serious human rights challenges due to armed conflicts, climate change, political instability, and the erosion of international laws and norms. These crises, he noted, disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and call for united and urgent action by human rights organisations and NGOs.
Eminent writer Rashmi Roul highlighted the achievements of CHRC and appealed to society at large to extend all possible support to strengthen its activities. Other speakers included Prof. Kulamani Barik, Prof. Umakanta Sahoo, Basanta Kumar Dash, Sanjay Kumar Dalabehera, and Bijay Mahatab.
As part of the programme, 70 human rights defenders, including the IIC of Narasinghpur Police Station, Biduprava Sahoo, Lalit Kumar Mishra, Pravakar Mishra, and Swapna Murmu, were felicitated with citations and mementos by CHRC and Purbasha Tarini Maa in recognition of their valuable service to humanity.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Banashree Mohapatra.
