Cyclone Montha affects 33 blocks and 11 urban areas in Odisha: Minister

Bhubaneswar(By AbhishekMohanty): Cyclone Montha has affected 33 blocks and 11 urban areas across Odisha, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday.

After reviewing the cyclone situation, the Minister said, "Cooked food has been provided to around 18,000 people at 362 relief centres across the state. Damage assessment will start tomorrow. The Collectors have been directed to submit damage assessment report in 72 hours. More than 19,000 people, including 2,189 pregnant women, have been evacuated."

Pujari stated that the cyclone did not cause any major damage in Odisha, though some districts experienced partial impact. The highest rainfall of 150.5 mm was recorded in Gosani block of Gajapati district, followed by 119.8 mm in Rayagad block and 107 mm in Mohana. In Ganjam district’s Patapur area, rainfall reached 117.4 mm.

Reports of landslides, damaged houses, and crop loss have emerged from several regions. District Collectors have been directed to assess the extent of the damage and submit detailed reports to the state government. Accordingly, compensation will be provided at the earliest.
