Cyclone update: Colleges & universities in 14 Odisha districts to remain closed till October 25
Bhubaneswar (22/10/2024): The Odisha government on Tuesday decided to keep colleges and universities closed in several districts that could bear the impact of the upcoming cyclonic storm. According to an official notification issued by the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), colleges and universities in 14 districts will remain closed from October 23 to October 25, 2024. The districts are Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack. A formal notification in this regard has also been issued regarding closure of colleges and universities in these districts as a precautionary measure by the Odisha Higher Education Department. Yesterday, the state government had announced closure of schools in these districts. The IMD has informed that depression over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow. It is very likely to further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island between October 24-25.
