Bhubaneswar (By Abhishek Mohanty): The Dawn-to-dusk bandh brought normal life to a standstill in Odisha on Thursday. The strike affected public transport and businesses.

A total of 82 platoons of police force were deployed in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

In Bhubaneswar, resentment was witnessed among daily commuters at several places after the bandh supporters stopped their vehicles and the 'Ama Bus' from plying on roads.

The bandh called by Congress party and eight other opposition parties is in demand of justice for Soumyashree Bisi, deceased the student of Fakir Mohan College in Balasore.

The state has witnessed a heavy police presence, particularly in cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Balasore.

Protests were reported at various locations, including railway stations and bus terminals. Train and bus services have been affected, and many shops and markets have been closed.

Buses stayed off the roads in Cuttack, Rourkela city and many other places.

The protestors halted the Bhadrak- Daspalla Memu train at Bhadrak railway station.

Pradesh Cogress Committee President Bhakta Das said, "The agitation will continue till the family of the girl student gets justice. The government should take immediate steps in this regard, failing which the protests will be intensified."
