Demise of Noted Children’s Writer Bhaskar Chandra Das: Balasore Mourns His Loss
Balasore, Oct 21 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): Renowned children’s writer Bhaskar Chandra Das passed away today at his residence in Meghadambaru. He was 83 and had been suffering from age-related ailments for a long time. According to family sources, he succumbed to a cardiac arrest at around 2:30 p.m.
At the time of his death, his wife Kamol Kumari Das, elder son Tapan, younger son Ranjan, daughters-in-law Mamata and Kavita, daughters Ranjita, Sanjita, and Pushpita, sons-in-law Gajendra, Chittaranjan, and Sushanta, along with grandchildren, were present by his side.
Late Das was the Editor of the children’s magazine “Shishu Sarathi” and had also served as the Secretary of the All Odisha Children’s Literature Academy. Through his devoted writing for children, he earned wide recognition and received several awards for his contribution to children’s literature.
His last rites were performed this evening at the Nunia Jodi crematorium, where his elder son Tapan lit the funeral pyre.
Upon hearing the news of his demise, several eminent personalities including children’s writers Pitambar Das, Kamal Das, Ramesh Behera, Remuna Block Chairman Rajendra Raut, Kuruda Sarpanch Tapas Panigrahi, social worker Aditya Chand, nephew Sumanta Patra, relatives Ramakrishna Das, Harekrushna Das, Kuna Das, and brothers Dibakar Das and Nishakar Das visited his residence to pay their last respects and offered floral tributes, praying for the departed soul.
His passing has cast a shadow of grief over the children’s literary fraternity of Balasore.
