First Look Launch of New Odia Film "Debakanya"

The first look of the new Odia film “Debakanya”, produced by Supreme Entertainment, has been officially unveiled. A press conference was held in the serene and green surroundings of Jayadev Vatika to mark the occasion.

Present at the press meet were the film’s cultural advisor Ashutosh Tripathy, story writer, screenwriter, and dialogue writer Shankar Prasad Tripathy, director Rasesh Mohanty (Silu), producer and distributor Sachikanta Jena, creative head Pranaya Jethi, music director Bikash Das, lyricist Dr. Biranchi Narayan Samal, veteran actors Ashrumochan Mohanty, Kuna Tripathy, Ravi Mishra, lead actor Subhasis Sharma, debut actress Sushree, choreographer Bidu, cinematographer Sudarshan Senapati, and many other artists involved in the film, along with media representatives.

A new wave has begun in Ollywood with films now focusing on Odia soil, traditions, and history. These movies are not only being warmly embraced by Odia audiences but are also achieving commercial success. In keeping with this trend, senior writer Shankar Prasad Tripathy has attempted to revive a cultural tradition of the Odia people through his writing in Debakanya.

The story is based on a folk tradition of Puri. It revolves around the life of a man who makes a living through folk dance, and the struggles he faces in his personal and social life. The film also explores the deep-rooted tradition of worshiping Goddess Mangala, a practice that has existed among the Odia people since ancient times. During the Odia month of Chaitra, special rituals are performed in honor of the Goddess, and the famous "Ghoda Nacha" (horse dance) is presented during the Chaiti Parba festival. However, this folk dance tradition is slowly fading away.

Supreme Entertainment has taken the initiative to not only revive but also bring this folk tradition closer to the people through this film. Debakanya is produced by Suresh Sahu and Bhargavi Tripathy and directed by the experienced filmmaker Rasesh Mohanty (Silu).

Cinematography has been handled by Sudarshan Senapati. The film features four songs penned by Dr. Biranchi Narayan Samal, with music composed by Bikash Das.

The entire shooting of Debakanya has been completed, and according to the producers, the film will be released on the big screen very soon.
