Four Distinguished Women Felicitated on International Women’s Day by Dance Institution ‘Naach’
Balasore, March 8 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): International Women’s Day was celebrated by the leading dance institution 'Naach' in Balasore with a special programme.
On this occasion, four distinguished women who have made notable contributions in different fields of society were honoured this year. For the past five years, the institution has been organising this celebration, selecting and felicitating talented women from various sections of society.
This year, the 'Naach Mahila Utkarsha Samman' was conferred on noted writer and editor of 'Dhwani Pratidhwani' and 'Sagarika', Sairindhree Sahoo (Balasore); nationally acclaimed painter Paramita Sirkar (Kolkata); educationist and social worker Sumati Mohanty, Secretary of Purubai Kanyashram at Soro; and young journalist and short story writer Smrutilagna Nanda.
The programme, held this evening at the Naach auditorium, began with introductory remarks by Arunanshu Panigrahi, while the proceedings were conducted by educationist and social worker Satyam Kumar Mishra. On the occasion, a message of greetings and a poem composed for Women’s Day by noted poet Krushna Kumar Mohanty were read out by Satyam Mishra.
Poet Srideb presented the gist of the programme, while social worker and previously honoured personality Sarada Giri attended as the chief guest. The president of the institution and eminent dancer Ronalisa Panda spoke about the objectives of the organisation and the significance of celebrating Women’s Day.
The programme, organised by the women’s wing of 'Naach', also featured performances of various traditional dances. Earlier, prizes were distributed to the winners of several competitions held for women. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ronalisa Panda.
