International Women’s Day celebrated by SNEH at Salia Sahi

Society for Nature, Education and Health (SNEH) celebrated International Women’s Day on Saturday in its Conflict Resolution and Training Centre situated in Salia Sahi slum, Bhubaneswar to honour womanhood. This year’s theme was “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls”. 

As many as 100 women participants from Peace Committees, Self-Help Groups, Mahila Arogya Samiti, adolescents from different habitations of Salia Sahi slum participated in this event. 
Sulochana Das, Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Kananbala Nayak; OFS, Writer, Snehalata Nayak Poet and writer, Social worker Dr Mamata Dash, Social worker Abadhuta Swainof ward no. 16 and Subas Panda; Project Director, SNEH, graced the occasion. 

The Mayor emphasised on changing gender roles and how women are creating a place for themselves in today’s society. Kanunbala Nayak said, “Slum women are the backbone of social harmony; they are not just victims of circumstance, but the architects of peace in their homes and neighborhoods.” 

On this occasion, Sulochana Das, Kananbala Nayak, Snehalata Nayak and Abadhuta Swain inaugurated the newly established ‘Family Counselling Centre’ for resolution of domestic conflicts. 

The Peace Committee leaders staged a play explaining how the women have evolved into peacemakers after receiving Restorative Justice training by SNEH. Subas Panda highlighted the role of women peacemakers in creating a culture of non-violence in their communities and on importance of a peaceful household especially for community welfare and delivered the vote of thanks. 

The anchoring duties were handled by two Peace Committee Members; Jharana Rana and Tukuni Das.
