Independent Team Conducts Inspection with Sadar BDO for Road Construction in Neglected Hamlet

Balasore, Oct 10 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty):
In Genguti Gram Panchayat under Balasore Sadar Block, the main road connecting three hamlets inhabited by tribal and economically backward families of Jambeswarpura village has long remained neglected. The stretch of over half a kilometre, running from Dr. Paramananda Sethi’s house via the Harisabha Hall to the Library Canal, had turned muddy, broken, and nearly unusable for years.
After media reports highlighted the issue, the social organization Anchalika Suraksha Manch, led by its president Kamal Lochan Raut, extended support. A special representative team visited the site, assessed the situation, and submitted a written memorandum to the District Collector, urging immediate construction of the road. The team warned that if the demand was ignored, a public movement would be launched to secure the basic rights of the neglected residents.
Notably, this hamlet is home to differently-abled athlete Sudhakar Sethi, who has brought national and international pride to the state despite being 90% orthopedically disabled. The poor state of the road has made life difficult for him and other villagers. School-going children, farmers, labourers, and elderly residents face serious hardship. Due to the slushy road, vehicles cannot enter the hamlet even in emergencies, and bedridden senior citizens remain deprived of timely medical help.
Following higher officials’ instructions, Balasore Sadar BDO along with a nine-member independent team and the local Sarpanch’s husband Satyanarayan Acharya visited the site. They inspected the road applied for permanent construction, interacted with villagers, and assured immediate measures. Villagers including Banaprabha Pradhan, Kishore Kumar Behera, Basanti Pradhan, Ajay Das, Jitendra Das, Jñanamani Behera, and Nishakar Sethi urged for a permanent paved road to end their suffering.
The Sadar BDO assured that the construction would begin soon, bringing hope to the residents. Villagers also expressed their grievance to the officials about the Sarpanch’s alleged obstruction of the long-used pathway under the pretext of pond excavation and delay in utilizing sanctioned funds. They termed such negative actions of an elected representative unfortunate.
Despite unfavourable weather, the Sadar BDO, his team, and members of Anchalika Suraksha Manch visited the hamlet and assured support. Villagers expressed heartfelt gratitude to them and the attending media representatives for their timely concern and service. The assurance of early construction has lit a ray of hope in this long-neglected settlement.
