Balasore, 15/07 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): A two-day international seminar titled “Application of Psychology in a Changing World: Understanding, Implementation, and Transformation” was organized by the Department of Psychology at Fakir Mohan University.

The seminar was inaugurated under the leadership of Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor of the University, who appreciated the efforts of the organizers and extended his best wishes to the distinguished participants from across India and abroad. He emphasized that postgraduate students should not remain confined to the classroom syllabus alone, and highlighted the responsibility of educators in shaping students’ futures through proper guidance, mentoring, and psychological support when needed.

The seminar was formally opened by Prof. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, former Chairperson of the Zakir Husain Centre for Educational Studies, JNU. In his keynote address, Prof. Mohanty discussed the evolving relationship between applied psychology and artificial intelligence, along with other pressing contemporary themes.

Distinguished guest speakers included Prof. Meena Hariharan, former Director of the Centre for Health Psychology at the University of Hyderabad, and Dr. Narendra Singh Thagunna, Professor at Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Both delivered scholarly talks enriched with research insights. Prof. Sukanya Ray from Suffolk University, Boston, USA, also joined the seminar virtually and presented her empirical research on psychological application in global contexts.

The academic sessions of the seminar explored psychology's significant role in enhancing emotional stability, educational outcomes, institutional productivity, and cultural sensitivity. Discussions extended to the psychological dimensions of media, governance, human–technology interaction, sustainable development, and community empowerment. Experts also highlighted how psychology influences public health, environmental behavior, and sports practices in fostering holistic well-being and prosperity.

Dr. Rajashree Dutta, Convener of the seminar, introduced the guests, while Mr. Shashanka Shekhar Gadnayak, Co-convener, delivered the thematic opening remarks. Prof. Yasmin Samantaray efficiently conducted the proceedings, and Dr. Jashasya Raut concluded the inaugural session with a formal vote of thanks.

The seminar brought together a rich confluence of ideas, research, and experiences, reinforcing the role of psychology as an indispensable discipline in understanding and addressing the challenges of an ever-changing world.
