International Women’s Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm in Sundargarh

Sundargarh, March 8, 2025: International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Kalyan Mandap near Samlei Temple, bringing together women from grassroots Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and eminent personalities. The event was spearheaded by Smt. Ranjana Panda, District President of the BJD Women’s Wing, and focused on women's empowerment and gender equality.
The highlight of the program was the presence of Rajmata Smt. Padmini Sekhar Deo, the first woman Chairperson of Sundargarh Municipality and former WODC Chairperson. Known for her simplicity and down-to-earth nature, her speech deeply inspired the attendees. Every word she spoke resonated with the struggles and aspirations of women, leaving an indelible impact.
Among the distinguished speakers, Sri Sanjay Pattnayak addressed the issue of gender inequality, emphasizing that it begins within families. He elaborated on ways to overcome this challenge through awareness and social change.
Smt. Ranjana Panda strongly criticized the Government’s Subhadra Yojana, calling it deceptive. She questioned the logic behind providing ₹5000 half-yearly instead of the promised ₹50,000 at once, stating that such policies fail to truly uplift women. She urged the need for a mass agitation to demand justice.
Adding to the discourse, Sri Sumanta Panda shed light on how the BJD Government has empowered SHGs by offering interest-free loans, helping women achieve self-reliance.
The event also saw the presence of prominent leaders, including veteran BJD leader Smt. Bina Sahu and Sundargarh Municipality Councillors Smt. Chirasmita Joshi, Smt. Sushila Nag, and Smt. Rajani Rohidas, who extended their support for women's empowerment initiatives.
The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening women's rights and creating an equal society.
