ISRO LAUNCHES CHANDRAYAAN-3 MOON MISSION
Hyderabad (14/07/2023): The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday launched Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota of Andhra Pradesh. The highly anticipated launch of Chandrayaan-3, India's third lunar exploration mission, took place at 2:35 pm. The rocket is nicknamed 'Bahubali' as like the hero in the successful film lifts a heavy Lingam, the rocket carried the 3.8 tonne Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft. After the successful launch, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the Twitter to congratulate all involved and said that Chandrayaan-3 scripts a new chapter in India's space Odyssey. The mission follows the ISRO's Chandrayaan-2, which failed a desired soft landing on the lunar surface nearly four years ago in September 2019, after the lander's communication failure with the ground stations at an altitude of just 2.1 km from the surface of the Moon. The mission aims to achieve what it's predecessor could not-land softly on the lunar surface and explore it with a rover. Chandrayaan-3 will journey for over a month before landing on the lunar surface later in August.
If successful, the mission will make India the only fourth nation, after the United States, the former Soviet Union and China, to have accomplished the task.
