National Handloom Day Celebrated at Fakir Mohan University: All Members Adopt Wearing Handloom Attire on Fridays

Balasore, 07/08 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): On the occasion of the 11th National Handloom Day, Fakir Mohan University celebrated the day with great enthusiasm and dignity.

The celebration was graced by the presence of the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Santosh Kumar Tripathy, Registrar Smt. Kukumina Das, Chairman of the Postgraduate Council Professor Bhaskar Behera, Finance Officer Karan Soren, Controller of Examinations Ranjan Kumar Ray, along with other officers and staff of the university. Their participation gave meaningful shape to the observance of the day.

A notable highlight of the celebration was the attire of the teaching and non-teaching staff—everyone wore traditional handloom sarees and garments, creating a distinct and culturally vibrant atmosphere on campus.

As part of a broader initiative, the university has adopted a policy encouraging all members to wear handloom attire every Friday and on the fourth Saturday of the month. This step is aimed at offering meaningful support to weavers and artisans engaged in traditional textile craftsmanship.

Through this campaign, the university hopes to rekindle interest in handloom and weaving arts, while also helping artisans find a sustainable source of livelihood. The faculty and staff have warmly welcomed the initiative and are voluntarily participating in this effort.
