Odisha STA imposes restriction on illegal vehicle modification, targets DJ vehicles

Bhubaneswar (By Abhishek Mohanty): The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) has issued a circular banning illegal modifications of vehicles, especially those converted into DJ vehicles.
This follows several accidents involving such unsafe and structurally altered vehicles.
Structural modifications like alterations to a vehicle’s height, length, or width are prohibited.
Modified vehicles will face cancellation of fitness and registration certificates under Sections 53 and 56(A) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to the STA, there is no legal provision for DJ vehicles under the Act.
Use of unauthorised sound systems, amplifiers, laser lights, and neon fittings is a safety violation.
The STA will conduct intensive inspections, especially during night hours and festive seasons.
Citizens are advised to check registration and compliance before hiring such vehicles.
Violators will face strict penalties, reinforcing the state’s focus on road safety and legal compliance.
