PATAKURA EXTENDS GRAND WELCOME TO PROF. BINAYA BHUSAN JENA
Patakura(05/2/2024): Yesterday, in the Padamapur Panchayat Ground of Kendrapara district, the final match of the 17th Maa Vajra Mahakali Cricket Cup was a major event in the region where about thousands of people watching the match.
The final match was played between two teams of Nuagada and Pikurali where Nuagada team played well and became the tournament champion.
As election is coming closer, many political parties and local leaders are either sponsoring different events or programmes or are organising events to come closer to the public.
But what was unusual to see in this tournament that Prof.Binaya Bhusan Jena, whose name has been echoing in the entire Kendrapara Parliamentary Constituency as a prospective candidate was invited as Chief Guest on the occasion.
Surprisingly, as informed by viewers and the organisers of the tournament, Prof.Jena is not a local of that place but he was invited as Chief Guest.
Keeping in mind his reputation as a noted educationist and voice of many issues and concerns of people. When Prof.Jena arrived in the Panchayat, the people of the Panchayat, particularly hundreds of youths welcomed him, and he was taken to the ground in a procession.
There were other guests invited on the stage including BJP Spokesperson Tejeswar Parida, Jagannath Dhal and few more.
Prof.Jena while addressing the gathering congratulated both the teams and said he was extremely happy to know that this tournament has been going on for the last 17 years.
He said despite such a huge popularity of this tournament in the region, there is no sports infrastructure in this place.
He expressed his anguish that the people’s representatives from the region should have demand and a Mini Stadium over there.
Tejeshwar Parida appreciated the initiative of the organisers and congratulated both the teams and said, "Looking at the standard of the match from next year onwards, Vajramahakali Tournament should become a state level tournament.".
