WOMEN PLAYED GREEN HOLI IN BHUBANESWAR
Bhubaneswar(26/03/2024): The women residents of Star Club Apartment in Bhubaneswar today doused with numerous hues prepared from different eco-friendly sources by themselves.
The colour extraction and making process took almost a week, whereby many women enthusiasts collectively came out in favour of an eco-friendly Holi this year.
However, the residents of the apartment have been playing ecofriendly Holi for last couple of years, initiated initially by Priyadarsini Das.
When people come together they make a much bigger impact.
This was the spirit of women members who were busy preparing natural dyes like Anjali Sahu, Sandhyarani Bhutia, Nivedita Biswal, Tandra Sahoo, Barsa Panda, Ms Dazy, and Alka Sabat.
As natural colour making process takes time and also a tedious process, they kept on learning and doing for about a week with Priyadarsini Das and finally they could make around 25 colours with a mix and match.
They used Haldi, Heena, Kumkum seeds, Beet root, violet cabbage, Indigo, Mango Leaf, Neem Leaf, Marigold, Tea, Coffee, Palas flower, Aparajita flower, Termite mound soil, Chandan, Keshar, and spinach to prepare different interest colour combinations.
This year, we made many colour pastes as using colour powder goes waste, as it is prepared with lot of efforts, said Tandra Sahoo.
We have enjoyed a lot together with this eco-friendly Holi and I wish continue playing this every year, said Susmita Mohanty, another resident. The celebration started around 10:00 am with distribution of sweets and flower Holi, then the residents gradually enjoyed the Green Holi with women dancing throughout, said Barsa Panda.
We are happy that we got to know about so many interesting colours that can be prepared by us from locally available eco-friendly resources said Nivedita Biswal.
Eco-friendly Holi by our residents is always special and we really feel proud of our women members of the society who were involved in preparing colours for the past few days”, said Sandhyarani Bhutia.
Other women members like Meena Sahu, Sonali, Suchitra Mishra, Mrs Panda, Sarika Agarwal, Preeti, Lori and Sadasa Das all were enjoying the eco-friendly Holi in the apartment. The woman behind the initiative Priyadarsini Das started this Holi, the year she started living in this society five years back.
The objective is to make the holi toxic free and eco-friendly.
Anyone can make colours from the locally available resources in our surrounding and you don’t need to buy anything from the market, said Priyadarsini.
