World Mother Language Day Observed by Alumni Association
Balasore, 21/02 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): World Mother Language Day was observed by the Alumni Association of the Regional High School, Saun, at the premises of Shri Jagannath Temple, Badakia under Sadar Block.
The programme was attended by local villagers and guardians of matriculation examinees.
The discussion session titled “My Language is the Best for Me” was held under the chairmanship of the Association’s President, Jaladhar Samal. Er. Manmath Kumar Barik invited the guests to the dias. Secretary and poet Sudhakar Sethi delivered the introductory address and paid tribute to the great sons of the soil who played a pioneering role in the formation of a separate state on linguistic basis. Through his poem, he praised the glory of the mother tongue and informed that the Association would undertake various programmes in the coming days for the protection and development of the language.
Youth organiser Sabyasachi Satapathy, in his speech, expressed concern that the rapid growth of English-medium schools like mushrooms may once again necessitate a movement to safeguard the mother tongue.
Among others, educationists and speakers including Nabakumar Nayak, Bijay Kumar Das, Thakar Charan Padhi, Jayashree Rout and Lucky Samal took part in the discussion.
Joint Secretary Sabitri Rani Das, Shubhranshu Kumar Rout, Bhavesh Kumar Mohanty and Rahul Kumar Barik assisted in conducting the programme. Ramachandra Mohanty, Himanshu Parida, Shantanu Kumar Panigrahi, Sudhakar Rout and Ranjan Nayak were present and contributed to the success of the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Rashmiranjan Jena.
