Bhubaneswar says Yes to eco-friendly Holi

The residents of Star Club Apartment in Patia, Bhubaneswar on Wednesday set another example of celebrating eco-friendly Holi. The women members of the apartment led by Priyadarsini Das, a social entrepreneur, popularly known as the “Green Queen of Odisha”, celebrated Holi with numerous natural, eco-friendly colours prepared by the residents from different plant based materials, anthill soil, flower with pumps and splendour.
The women members collect used flowers like marigold and red rose from temples, different leafs from nearby locality like mango leaf, spinach, Indian bean leaf(Simba), Heena, and Neem leaf, colours extracted from beetroot, turmeric, tea, coffee, Indigo, Heena and anthill soil of different colour to prepare a mix and match of different colours.
The entire apartment play Holi with these colours.
Six years back, Priyadarsini led a foundation with couple of women friends from the apartment, today it has become so popular is sending a message across.
Today, everyone including men, children and elderly people equally enjoy playing Holi with these environment-friendly colours.
They used colour powders, water colours to spray, pastes to apply on face and body using these natural materials, which mostly do have medicinal and healing properties. The market is flooded with different chemical and toxic colours can create health hazards and can also harm the environment, pollute water and soil, says Priyadarsini. Hence the women residents of the society like Nandita Biswal, Barsha Panda, Tandra Sahoo, Sangeeta Sahoo, Adyanshi Sahoo, Snigdha Padhy, Ushamanjari Sahu, Resham and Shilpa convincingly extended hands with Priyadarsini to ensure a toxic free eco-friendly Holi this year.
