Discussion on Medical Science Held on the 8th Day of 'Language Fortnight' Observed by Odia Bhasa Bikash Andolan

Balasore | 5/5 | (Krushna Kumar Mohanty) – On the 8th day of the “Language Fortnight” observed by the Odia Bhasa Bikash Andolan (OBBA), a special discussion titled “Odia Language as a Bridge Between the Public and Complex Medical Science” was held and was presided over by Dr. Choudhury Satyabrata Nanda.

Introducing the subject, Dr. Nanda remarked that for effective application of complex medical science, a physician must possess knowledge of spoken, written, symbolic, and sub-linguistic expressions. A doctor can only treat successfully by correctly interpreting the language of a patient’s mind and body.

Among the esteemed guests, retired Chief District Medical Officer of Balasore and renowned surgeon Dr. Ranjan Padhi opined that if complex medical concepts could be translated into Odia in the style of folk tales, folk songs, and traditional stories like Aima narratives, the common people would benefit immensely. He emphasized that every patient has the right to detailed information about their condition and that doctors must remain sensitive and empathetic to patient needs.

Another distinguished guest, gynecologist and obstetrician Dr. Meera Pati, observed that from the moment of birth, human beings are constantly vulnerable to disease. She urged people to steer clear of harmful superstitions and become more health-conscious. Expressing concern, she added that despite women’s many achievements, the birth of a girl child is still not always a cause for celebration—a situation she strongly condemned.

The session began with an introductory address by poet Deepak Bose. Joint Secretary Jumaranath Patra invited the dignitaries to the dais, while other Joint Secretary Shantilata Panda offered the vote of thanks.

Among others present were Aruna Ray, Sharata Kumar Mahapatra, Niranjan Raut, Pradeep Kumar Chatterjee, Sanjay Kumar Panda, Dr. Sarangadhar Tripathy, Kalyani Nanda, Rajendranath Raut, Dr. Kshiteshwar Dash, Archana Nandi, Karunakar S., Lambodhar Nayak, Dr. Samarballabh Bhoi, Prafulla Kumar Das, Laxmikanta Behera, Kavita Jena, Mamata Mohanty, Shanti Bishi, Subrata Mohanty, Abanti Pradhan, Sushree Shefali, Narendranath Panigrahi, Bidyadhar Sahu, Truptirani Patra, Pitambar Das, Debashish Singh, Madhusudan Majhi, Mahendra Prasad Panigrahi, Krushna Pradhan, Bipin Kumar Dey, Manmath Kumar Sahu, and Deepak Das.
