BJD takes out rally, submits memorandum protesting exclusion of Baliapal from NAC declaration

Balasore, Sept 3 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty):
A massive rally and protest meeting was organised in Baliapal on Tuesday by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over the exclusion of the area from the state government’s recently announced list of Notified Area Councils (NACs). The programme was led by Basta MLA Subasini Jena, who also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through BDO Radharajan Das.

The rally began from the party office near Jamkunda Square, where hundreds of party workers assembled before marching to the block headquarters, raising slogans in support of the demand. A protest meeting was later held in front of the block office, presided over by BJD block president Gobinda Prasad Das.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Jena said Baliapal had earlier been declared an NAC during the previous government and that it continues to meet all eligibility criteria. She urged the government to grant NAC status at the earliest, warning that local residents would intensify their agitation if the demand was ignored.

The memorandum submitted to the administration reiterated that the people of Baliapal have long been expecting NAC status, and its exclusion from the latest notification has caused disappointment in the region.

Several senior leaders, including Maheswar Jena, Ajay Samal, Zilla Parishad member Benudhar Jena, Deb Kumar De, Harekrushna Jena, Prafulla Patra, Sarat Pradhan, Bhagaban Giri and Nishakar Sethi, were present at the meeting. They cautioned that protests would continue from the block level to the district and even to the state capital until the demand is fulfilled.
