Fakir Mohan University Launches Week-Long Course on “Research and Publication Ethics for Ph.D. Scholars

22/9(Krushna Kumar Mohanty) Fakir Mohan University inaugurated its flagship Course on Research and Publication Ethics (RPE-2025) today at the Conference Hall of the P.G. Council (New Campus). The week-long programme, organized by the Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) of FMU, will run from 22nd to 26th September 2025, offering doctoral scholars a comprehensive blend of theoretical learning and hands-on training in research methodology, ethics, and publication practices.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, FMU, along with Prof Bhaskar Behera ( Chairman PG Council), Prof Ranidra Kumar Nayak ( Director, HRDC), Prof Pankaj Kumar Parhi ( Director, R&D), Chief speaker Prof Sharat Kumar Palita( Central University of Odisha, Koraput) and Dr Debadutta Das ( Deputy Director , HRDC) and other 
faculty members and more than 150 research scholars from across disciplines. 
In his keynote address, Prof. Tripathy emphasized the importance of cultivating ethical research practices.
“Research is not just about producing knowledge but also about cultivating ethics, integrity, and responsibility. This course will empower our scholars to frame research problems effectively, adopt the right methodologies, and publish with credibility. I am confident that such initiatives will prepare our Ph.D. scholars to contribute meaningfully to society through impactful and ethical research,” said Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy

The RPE-2025 course has been exclusively designed for Ph.D. scholars pursuing coursework across all departments of FMU. Its objectives are to:
* Enable participants to define research problems and choose appropriate research designs.

* Strengthen skills in hypothesis formulation, testing, and data analysis using parametric and non-parametric tools.

* Train participants in scientific writing, preparing high-quality research reports, and selecting credible journals for publication.

* Introduce participants to plagiarism detection tools and ethical guidelines for academic publishing.

The workshop features interactive lectures, working modules, and hands-on exercises by eminent academicians and researchers. Key sessions include:

* Philosophy and Ethics – Nature, scope, moral judgment, and branches of ethics (Prof. S.K. Palita, CUO & Prof. S.K. Tripathy, VC-FMU)

* Scientific Conduct – Causes of unethical behavior, conflict of interest, and scientific misconduct (Dr. Bharat Bhusan Pattanaik, Prof. Pradipta Ku. Mohapatra, Prof. Bisnu Prasad Dash)

* Publication Ethics & Open Access Publishing – Identifying predatory journals, journal selection tools, and COPE/WAME guidelines (Prof. Satchidananda Dehuri, Prof. Pankaj Ku. Parhi, Dr. M. Bhattacharya)

* Research Metrics – Understanding impact factor, SNIP, SJR, h-index, g-index, i10-index, and Altmetrics (Dr. Samir Ku. Jalal, IIT-KGP & Dr. Mihir Tanaya Das, FMU)

* Hands-on Training – Use of plagiarism detection software like Turnitin, citation databases (Web of Science, Scopus), and journal finder tools.

The program is coordinated by Dr Rajashree Dutta ( member-HRDC).
The course will conclude on 26th September 2025 with a valedictory session led by Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, summarizing the learning outcomes and encouraging scholars to carry forward the ethos of ethical research.
