Missing minor’s body recovered in Guwahati

Guwahati: A minor, who was swept away on Thursday night in Bamunimaidan  area of Guwahati by the current of flood water is found dead and his body was recovered on Sunday morning from a drain in Rajgarh  locality. Parents of the boy, named  Avinash Sarkar (8), identified the body at Gauhati medical college hospital morgue. Avinash was returning home at Noonmati locality with his father during the evening hours amidst rains when he  fell on a roadside drain and went missing. The rescue teams comprising NDRF and SDRF personnel continued their launch and finally his body was recovered from around three kilometre away.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited the family and extended   his   deepest condolences to the bereaved family. He also visited the incident site and took stock of the ongoing search operation.  An extensive search operation started since Friday morning to trace the boy. In presence of Guwahati   Municipal   Corporation  mayor   Mrigen   Sarania,  special   DGP   Harmeet Singh, city police commissioner Diganta Bora, district commissioner Sumit Sattawan and  other  officials, Sarma assured that the search operation will continue to find the boy.
The flood situation across Assam continues to be grim as most of the  major rivers are flowing above the danger level affecting more than  24 lakh people in 30 districts. The flood related incidents, landslides and storms have snatched away the lives of 70 people till date. Dhubri, Cachar, Barpeta, Golaghat, Nalbari and South Salmara districts are reported to be worst affected in the second wave of flood in Assam this year. Over 3,500 villages are inundated and nearly 53,000 people take refuge in the relief camps, set up by the administration.
As Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve continues reeling under flood water from the swollen Brahmaputra river over 100 animals including six rhinos died after drowning. On the other hand, the park authorities rescued 95 animals. Following the direction of CM Sarma, all the ministers have visited the flood affected localities to take stock of the ground situation. Assam industry minister Bimal Bora  also inspected the flood ravaged Nimatighat  area of Jorhat and interacted with the local people. He assured all possible support from the authority.
Meanwhile, Union home minister Amit Shah spoke with CM Sarma and reassured full assistance from the Centre. NDRF and the SDRF personnel are working on a war footing, providing relief and rescuing the flood victims, said Shah, adding that Prime Minister  Narendra Modi stands firmly with the people of Assam and is committed to providing all possible assistance to the affected people in these challenging times.
