ODISHA ATHLETES SHINE IN SPECIAL OLYMPICS BHARAT CYCLING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Bhubaneswar(23/3/2024): In the recently concluded Cycling National Championship of Special Olympics Bharat at Tau Devilal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana, the 5 member team of Odisha bagged 5 medals including 2 golds.
Special Olympian Sarita Routray bagged golds in 1 km and 2 kms race in the women's category.
Debasish bagged a silver in 2 kms race, Siddharth Mohanty bagged a bronze in 10 kms race and first timer Rakesh Sethi bagged a bronze in 2 kms race in the men's category. "This is an awesome feat in cycling by the Odisha team in a long time.
Our athletes have been practicing well and the results are encouraging", opined Prakash Rath, Area Director, Special Olympics Bharat-Odisha. The Special Olympics Bharat-Odisha President, Sunita Mund, Vice President, Umakanta Sarangi, Treasurer, Suresh Khuntia, State Program Coordinator, Arpita Mohapatra, Sports Director, Sasmita Mohapatra and Board Members, Manatosh Behera, Tanmay Senapati and Diptimayee Rout conveyed their wishes to the medal winners through the team coach, Kalandi Charan Bhoi. The support of the Sports Department of the State Government is appreciated by Special Olympics Bharat-Odisha for providing travel, equipment and daily allowances during travel for the team members.
