Odisha government extends Pollution Under Control Certificate deadline by one month
Bhubaneswar(By Abhishek Mohanty):
In a move aimed at easing inconvenience for vehicle owners, the Odisha government has announced a one-month extension for the validity of the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). The decision was shared on Wednesday by Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena.
The extension has been granted to provide relief to motorists facing difficulties in updating mandatory vehicle documents amid intensified checks during Road Safety Month.
The government said the additional time will help people regularise their papers without the fear of immediate penalties.
Speaking on the decision, the Transport Minister said the grace period will allow vehicle owners to complete essential formalities such as renewal of Registration Certificates (RC), fitness certificates, PUCC, and vehicle insurance. He appealed to the public to ensure all documents are valid, stressing that strict enforcement of traffic rules is necessary to reduce road accidents and save lives.
The decision comes in the wake of reports of heavy rush and technical glitches at pollution testing centres following stricter enforcement measures by the Transport Department.
Officials clarified that the extension is a temporary relief and that stringent action will be taken once the one-month period ends.
Motorists have been advised to utilise the extended deadline to update all required documents in time and avoid penalties or inconvenience in the future.
