Odisha lawyers to continue fight seeking due respect for Madhu Babu
Bhubaneswar(25/04/2025): The lawyers from Odisha have been demanding that Madhusudan Das, who played a pivotal role in formation of India's first linguistic state, receive the respect he deserves.
Madhu Babu is known as the creator and father of modern Odisha. The long standing demands of the lawyers are Madhusudan Das should be given the Bharat Ratna award posthumously.
They also demand installation of statue of Madhu Babu in the Parliament House premises, running a train in the name of Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das, declaration of Madhu Babu's birthday a government holiday and naming the road near the court after Madhu Babu. To push for these demands, lawyers are collecting signatures in support of the cause.
So far, they've gathered signatures from 21 states. The places from where signatures were collected include Punjab, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Chennai, Assam, Mizoram, Sikkim, New Delhi, Tripura. Signatures were also collected from Orissa High Court and Supreme Court premises. For leading the campaign and making it successful, lawyer Lingaraj Sahoo, the convener of the forum, was honoured today at the Bhubaneswar Bar.
The event was chaired by Deepak Das, former Secretary of the Bhubaneswar Lawyers' Association, and attended by senior lawyer Shibananda Ray, Secretary Satya Ranjan Senapati, former Joint Secretary Ashok Kumar Badapanda and Nihar Ranjan Sethi. The forum believes that no amount of posthumous honour would be enough for Madhusudan Das.
However, lawyers say their fight for giving him the respect he deserves will continue.
