Odisha Police destroys 28 lakh ganja plants in November
Bhubaneswar (25/11/2024): In recent times, some of the districts of Odisha having large forest and hilly terrain, such as Kandhamal, Boudh, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and other neighbouring districts have become hub of cannabis cultivation.
Odisha Police is committed to eradicate this menace to save the future of our youth.
With such a view, as per direction of DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, Odisha Police has started a massive drive from first of November, which will continue throughout the harvesting season until March-2025.
During the first 24 days of this drive so far, 2375 acres of land in above districts have been covered and so far more than 28 lakh cannabis/ganja plants destroyed.
Last year, the Odisha Police had destroyed cannabis cultivation in about 10,500 acres. In addition to cannabis plantations, the police has been targeting the ganja traders also.
During the month, so far 5300 Kg of ganja has been seized in 54 cases.
This ganja has been seized at the time of transportation and 20 numbers of vehicles of different types, including trucks, pick up vans, Innova cars, etc.have been seized along with 15 lakh cash.
So far, 102 ganja peddlers have also been arrested. The drive is intended to prevent people from indulging in illegal cultivation of cannabis/ganja plants.
