Palm trees worth Rs 6 crore to be planted in Odisha for curbing lightning deaths

The Odisha government has decided to plant palm trees worth Rs 6 crore to reduce lightning-related fatalities.
Palm trees are known to mitigate the impact of lightning strikes.
Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia said the state is taking appropriate steps to prevent such deaths.
The decision comes after multiple districts across the state witnessed heavy rainfall, strong winds, and intense lightning. At least 14 people lost their lives due to lightning strikes, while more than 20 others sustained injuries.
