POLITICAL PARTY REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTED TO INCORPORATE CHILDREN’S SUGGESTIONS IN THEIR ELECTION MANIFESTO
Bhubaneswar(16/02/2024): The suggestions given by children regarding their safety, education and overall development and well being will be incorporated in the political party manifesto committed by the representatives of different political parties joining the state level dialogue, organised by Odisha Alliance for Child Rights at Panthanivas in Bhubaneswar today. Dr.Lenin Mohanty, Spokesperson, BJD, Kasturi Mohapatra, Secretary General, Biju Mahila Janata Dal, Dr.Priti Prativa Bhal, Vice President BJP Mahila Morcha, Smita Samanta, BJP Mahila Morcha, Dr.Biswaranjan Mohanty, Chairman, Media/Communication, OPCC, Purna Chandra Padhi, Chairman, All India Forward Block, Narayan Dakua, Secretary, All India Forward Block, Puspa Das, State Secretariat Member, CPIM, Jayasurya Kanungo, President AAP , Mahendra Parida, Standing Committee Member, CPI (M-L) were present in this programme.
Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Chairperson, OACR gave the welcome address and shared the purpose of this initiative is to bring into forefronts the issues and concerns of children by prioritising their rights and wellbeing.
On this occasion children submitted and placed a 10 points charter of suggestions by the children to political parties Civil Society Organisations representatives also placed different suggestions for realisation of children’s right and well being.
The representative of the political parties committed to take appropriate steps for the incorporation of suggestion to their party manifesto. Free, compulsory, quality and safe inclusive education for all children up to the age of 18, strengthening the child protection mechanism and institutions at all level, Promotion of Sisusabha/Balsabha for participation of children in the local governance, special provision to protect the children against tobacco use, clean environment at school and community, Child friendly safe place for children during disaster and emergency situation, and child centred disaster preparedness and management, pollution free and plastic free environment, adequate playground in urban and rural setup, making odisha a child friendly state, developing child friendly constituencies, a state policy on creche, increasing budget for children were some of the suggestion given by children in their suggestion note. A state level “Roundtable on Prioritising Children’s Rights and Wellbeing” organised on the forenoon of February 16 at Panthnivas, Bhubaneswar with presence of Civil Society organisations from different districts of Odisha along with Dr.Pritikant Panda, Programme Manager, OSCPS, Sugata Roy, UNICEF, Ajaya Singh, UNICEF, Ghasiram Panda, Action Aid, Prakash Rath, Vice Chair, OACR, Anuradha Mohanty, PECUC, Smruti Ranjan Jena, development professional and Ubachak Mohanty, MIHY and many other.
Children representative were also participated in this discussion.
More than 70 participants participated in this roundtable discussion.
