Satirical Literature Has a Unique Appeal and Incomparable Glory, Says Guest Satirical Story Book Apanankara Biswasta by Radhashyam Roul Unveiled
Balasore, March 8 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): The book 'Apanankara Biswasta', authored by noted satirist and columnist Radhashyam Roul and published by the publishing house 'Swabalamban', was formally unveiled yesterday evening at Sriramchandra Bhavan in Cuttack.
The programme was presided over by eminent litterateur Dr. Bijayananda Singh, President of 'Kalabikash Kendra'.
Speaking as the chief guest, senior journalist Dr. Rajaram Satpathy observed that in a life constantly burdened with problems, complications, and helplessness, the ability to gather a moment of laughter and joy is perhaps the greatest achievement for a human being. He remarked that satirical literature acts as a powerful remedy that keeps the human mind healthy, refreshed, and free from anxiety. Hence, the appeal of satire is unique and its glory incomparable.
Joining as the guest of honour, distinguished writer Dr. Gobinda Chandra Chand, President of 'Utkal Sahitya Samaj', reflected on the relevance of the book’s title and said that the writer Radhashyam Roul himself stands as a loyal and committed voice of satirical literature.
The keynote speaker, noted litterateur and Odia professor at Ravenshaw University Dr. Jnanee Debashish Mishra, spoke about the contemporary trends and movements in satirical literature and discussed Roul’s distinctive style. He remarked that satire is a refined and dignified form of writing that embodies empathy, self-respect, and sensitivity.
Young researcher of satire and Odia lecturer Dr. Nirod Kumar Mantri presented a detailed review of the book and described it as a successful and noteworthy collection of satirical stories.
In his presidential address, Dr. Bijayananda Singh stated that satire is an art of subtle discipline, guided by noble thought and intellectual vision. According to him, it is a careful and thoughtful literary practice that carries meaningful messages to society.
Poet Biswamitra Mishra invited the guests to the stage. Writer Saroj Kumar Samal introduced the guests, while publisher Santosh Kumar Barik proposed the vote of thanks.
