Berhampur (By Abhishek Mohanty): In a major drive to ensure food safety during the festive season, the Food Safety Team of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation carried out extensive raids on sweet shops across the city on Sunday.

The inspections aimed to check food quality and hygiene standards ahead of Diwali.

During the drive, fines amounting to over Rs 1 lakh were collected from several outlets for non-compliance with hygiene and safety regulations.

Reportedly, the action was taken to prevent the sale of substandard and unsafe food items during the festival rush. More than 50 sweet shops across the city were inspected, and owners were directed to maintain proper cleanliness and sell only quality food products.

Authorities emphasised that maintaining hygiene and ensuring food safety are especially important during Diwali, when demand for sweets surges.

The joint operation was conducted by the Food Safety and Enforcement Teams of Berhampur Municipal Corporation. Officials added that similar inspections will continue in the coming days to ensure full compliance with food safety norms.
