Tiger counting exercise begins at Similipal
Baripada(05/04/2025): The tiger counting exercise has commenced at Similipal in Mayurbhanj district from today.
The Forest Department has deployed 85 personnel in 8 teams for the counting process.
Additionally, over 300 trap cameras and artificial cameras are being utilized.
The counting will be done by collecting paw prints and stool samples.
The exercise will continue during the monsoon season.
After completion, the report will be submitted to the NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority).
The tiger counting report is expected to be published in 2026.
Tiger counting reports are published every four years.
According to the previous report, Similipal is home to 20 majestic tigers.
