10 dead in fire at SCB; Odisha CM announces Rs 25 lakh compensation

Cuttack(By Abhishek Mohanty): A major fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack claimed the lives of 10 patients on Monday. 

The fire is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit.
Sources said 23 patients were admitted to the Trauma Care ICU when the incident occurred. 

During the evacuation and shifting of patients to safer wards, 10 patients died.

Following the tragedy, Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, visited the hospital and reviewed the situation at the fire-affected area.

The Chief Minister announced Rs 25 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and ordered a judicial inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and examine possible negligence.

Authorities have identified the victims as Ramesh Chandra Parida, Darshu Munda, M.D. Nyum, Gouranga Chandra Barik, Sheikh Abdul Sattar, Madhusudan Dalai, Krushnachandra Biswal, Rabindra Das, Cheru Parida and Maneka Rout.
