SCB Hospital fire in Cuttack: PM announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for victims’ families
Cuttack(By Abhishek Mohanty): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who died in the fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack along with Rs 50,000 for the injured.
The fire in the Trauma Care ICU claimed the lives of 10 patients and is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, officials said.
At the time of the incident, 23 patients were admitted, and 10 lost their lives during evacuation and shifting to safer wards.
Following the tragedy, Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, visited the hospital to assess the situation. He announced Rs 25 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and ordered a judicial inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire and probe any negligence.
