Giant Trees Under Siege by Mysterious Insects — Balasore, Dec 31
In Jambeswarpur village under Genguti Panchayat, Sadar Block, Balasore, a large neem tree and a kochila tree located in the residential compound of Dr. Paramananda Sethi — retired Deputy Director of the Animal Resources Department — have been infested with mysterious insects in large numbers.
Despite repeated applications of insecticides, no visible improvement has been observed. The affected trees show white patches, and their leaves are falling prematurely.
Environmental activist Monalisa Sethi expressed deep concern, stating:
“Balasore is currently ranked No.1 in pollution across the country. Seeing such majestic trees succumb to infestation is alarming. Trees are the only true remedy for healing nature. We urge authorities to intervene immediately and seek assistance from entomologists and botanical experts.”
Her appeal aims to ensure accurate identification of the insects and prevent further ecological damage. While the insects have not yet harmed humans, unchecked proliferation could lead to disastrous consequences for the local ecosystem.
