Jambeswarpur Connecting Road in Bad Condition: Villagers Demand Immediate Construction

Balasore | 26/8 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty)
The connecting road to the eastern hamlet of Jambeswarpur in Sadar block under Genguti Panchayat has turned into a death trap, creating severe hardship for the tribal, sub-tribal, and general communities living there.
The hamlet consists of about thirty to forty tribal families, four to five indigenous households, and more than a hundred general caste families. The main entry road—from Library Canal via Harisabha Griha to the house of Dr. Paramananda Sethi—is a mud road, which has been completely destroyed in the ongoing rainy season.
Social worker Manalisa Sethi had earlier drawn the attention of officials to this problem, but no steps have been taken so far. Human rights activist Sudhakar Sethi pointed out that it is unfortunate that morrum was not laid on the road before the rains, leaving it in a worsening condition.

As a result, children cannot attend school, and in case of emergencies, ambulances and fire service vehicles cannot reach the hamlet. Local youth organizer Sagar Nayak said that without immediate repair, patients may have to be carried on cots.
Repeated demands have gone unheard, raising questions about why a road used by marginalized communities has been ignored for so long. The hamlet also has several elderly residents and three differently-abled persons above eighty years of age, who are suffering the most.
“Why do our representatives and officials neglect us? Are we not human beings? We pay taxes, yet we are denied even the most basic facilities,” said senior citizen Baidhar Das with grief.
Villagers including Ajay Das, Nishakar Sethi, Harendra Pradhan, Bhuvan Mohan Das, Banaprabha Pradhan, Madan Mohan Das, Geetanjali Das, Kavita Das, Ranjita Das, Laxmipriya Das, Ranjit Das, Trilochan Das, and Surendra Pradhan warned that unless authorities immediately spread morrum for temporary use and later construct a permanent concrete road, they will be forced to start a mass agitation.
