Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Road Safety Awareness Drive by Five NGOs at Historic Bali Jatra Ground

A cleanliness and awareness programme under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was conducted at the historic Bali Jatra ground in Cuttack, supported by five leading NGOs of Odisha—Citizens Human Rights Clinic (Cuttack), Purvasha Tarini Maa Socio-Economic Organisation (Cuttack), Mayanidra Foundation (Bhadrak), Savitri Devi Foundation (Lingipur, Bhubaneswar), and Mother Teresa Seba Sangha (Bhubaneswar).
The campaign, which combined Swachh Bharat activities with road safety awareness, was graced by several prominent personalities, including Gopabandhu Mallik (former Additional Director General of Police and lifetime member of the participating organizations), Prof. Niranjan Barik (former Professor, Ravenshaw University), Prof. and noted writer Rashmi Raul, Indo TV Chairperson and social worker Banashree Mahapatra, naturopath Sulagna Sucharita, Sanskriti Sumedha, Basanta Kumar Dash, Biswakesan Behera, Khagen Bharati, Madhusmita Choudhury, Satrughna Mahapatra, Damodar Baral, Rakesh Maharana, and Sudarshan Sahu.
Prof. Niranjan Barik suggested to the district administration that the Bali Jatra festival be made an eco-friendly celebration. In her address, Prof. Rashmi Raul emphasized that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan should not remain confined to paper but must be implemented in spirit and action. She recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the mission on October 2, 2014, but lamented that its full success has yet to be realized, urging every citizen to take responsibility and contribute actively.
Speakers such as Banashree Mahapatra, Nrusingha Nath Nanda, and Biswakesan Behera also highlighted various civic issues concerning Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
According to Gopabandhu Mallik, Chairperson of CHRC, the cleanliness and awareness campaign will continue at the Bali Jatra ground on November 11 and 12.
