TRAINING PROGRAM ON ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUES FOR TELUGU JOURNALISTS
Visakhapatnam(09/02/2024): In collaboration with the US Consulate General, Hyderabad, VIEWS NGO conducted training classes for Telugu journalists on climate change at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.
Executive Director of VIEWS NGO, S.Bheemarao, stated that this workshop was organized with the aim of enhancing the understanding of Telugu journalists regarding the adverse effects of environmental and climate change.
He emphasized that this training will enable Telugu regional language journalists to report on climate change more accurately and comprehensively, and to cover climate change issues extensively in Telugu media.
Thirty journalists from leading media organizations of Andhra Pradesh attended this workshop. On the first day of the two-day workshop, the representative of Climate Asia, Bangalore, Kaushik Yanamandram, addressed the challenges of Climate Change faced by local communities and proposed solutions to address them.
J.Uma Maheswara Rao, a journalist from Times of India, discussed issues such as challenges in climate change reporting, key information research, and gathering information from affected communities. Representatives from VIEWS NGO, S.Bhimrao and Sunil Kumar Ghadel, announced that training programs will be organized for 50 Telugu and Odia journalists from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
They stated that the training will cover various climate change topics including sea erosion, agriculture, deforestation, migration, changing weather patterns, urban flooding, and natural disasters.
Abdul Samad, a representative of the US Consulate General Office of Hyderabad, and journalists reporting on environmental and climate change issues from Andhra Pradesh, participated in the training session.
